About Me

Picture
I'm a child of the 80's, which means I grew up with the best cartoons, the best video games, and the best movies. And despite what my teachers always told me, none of that rotted my brain. If anything, it was food for a starving imagination. Seriously. Nothing was better for a budding sci-fi/fantasy fan than rushing home to catch the next installment of Robotech, randomly catching Beastmaster or The Last Starfighter on HBO, or playing Castlevania on the original NES.

I was an avid D&D player in my teens, and watching the old Streamline Pictures dubs of Fist of the North Star and Vampire Hunter D back-to-back made me an obsessive anime and manga fan. I've since drifted away from anime, but I've recently come back to tabletop roleplaying.

I joined the Marine Corps in 2001, serving a few tours overseas as an Infantryman. After a short break in service, I joined the Army in 2007, serving overseas again. I was medically retired in 2010, with a little less than 9 years combined service.

I took up writing while I was in a medical hold unit in Hawaii, awaiting discharge. It was something I'd always dabbled in, but my wife urged me to pursue it seriously. I'll always be grateful to her for that.

In 2014, I entered the 31st Annual Writers of the Future Contest, winning first prize in the contest's third quarter. My winning story, "The God Whisperer," appeared in the contest's annual anthology in 2015. Since then, I've sold short fiction to various magazines and print anthologies, as well as indie publishing a steampunk fantasy adventure novel.

Currently, I live in North Carolina with my amazing wife, our two dogs, and a growing collection of RPG books, classic pulp re-prints, and used sword & sorcery paperbacks. I started keeping a blog mainly as a way to organize my often contradictory thoughts and opinions.
